Merry Christmas" – This greeting is heard around the world in all languages, often together with wishes for the New Year. Christmas greetings, once almost only sent by post, now use all the media to make their way to their recipients. And still we are happy to receive a card, often lovingly chosen or even handmade by the sender, with a handwritten greeting, perhaps a little nostalgic but always with a personal touch. As each year, the post office at Christkindl is working at full steam at this time. Many people still insist on their greetings bearing the special postmark.

"Merry Christmas" – Can we rejoice at the secret of Christmas? Are we really aware of the meaning of the Christian festival, or is it lost in the commercial hustle and bustle? It would be no surprise. Months in advance, the world of business takes over, we are subject to a barrage of advertising to the accompaniment of Christmas music. Nothing is left undone in the attempt to encourage us to do our compulsory Christmas shopping. Anyone who escapes from this pressure and approaches what used to be the "quietest part of the year" in contemplative peace can count himself lucky. The issue of the first day postmark in the Styrian village of Langenwang recalls Peter Rosegger's Christmas tales from his forest home land, moving stories of simple and modest happiness.

"Merry Christmas" – A greeting that for many is anything but merry. Above all for those who live alone and forsaken, who have no-one to care for them and bring a little joy into their lives. These are not just old people, there are also many young people who have suffered a cruel stroke of fortune. Alone and ignored in the city's anonymity, they find it particularly difficult to look forward to a "Merry Christmas". Nor should we forget those locked away by society, who particularly suffer from their exclusion at Christmas.
