Origin of the stampset

In 2005, many cultural and social activities has been taken in Hanoi to commemorate 995th Anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi - the initial stage towards the celebration of the 1000th Anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi.

To mark this great event, Ministry of Posts & Telematics (MPT) is projected to issue three stampsets of the same title "1000th Anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi".

The first stampset is issued on the occasion of the 990th Anniversary of Long - Hanoi, named "Thang Long - Hanoi, the Age-old Culture and Civilization". In this year, the second, on the occasion of its 995th Anniversary, specially on the theme: "Thang Long - Hanoi with her glorious tradition in the struggle against foreign invaders".

The stampset consisting of three values and one block introduces generically this tradition of Thang Long - Hanoi.

- Value 3-1 (3385), denomination of 800d: Thang Long with her glorious tradition in the struggle against foreign invaders. On the stamps are the images of Quang Trung General’s statue against the historical battle of Ngoc Hoi - Dong Da and the ancient Thang Long under the Le Dynasty.

- Value 3-2 (3386), denomination of 5,000d: Hanoi with the war of resistance against French colonialists. The images on the stamp are statues on the theme decide to die for the independence of Fatherland against some images expressing the fight will of Hanoi people.

- Value 3-3 (3387), denomination of 8,000d: Hanoi with the war of resistance against American Empire. The images on the stamp feature the statue about B52 Victory – glorious feats of Hanoi people in the struggle against America. The background of stamp introduces the Long Bien bridge, the areas bombed much with the purpose of traffic interruption of enemy.

- Block (942B), denomination of 8,000d: Millennium of Thang Long - Hanoi. The block introduces the image of ceremony of present before public of governmental delegation of Vietnam Democratic Republic at Ba Dinh Square against the images of fighters at the atmosphere of triumphal return and the flag tower of Hanoi - the victory symbol and the pride of the heroic capital.
