Origin of the stampset
Hai Phong - the big Sea Port City of Vietnam, has the respected age - old history of struggle against aggressors
On the occasion of 50th Anniversary of Hai Phong liberation, Ministry of Posts and Telematics (MPT) issues the stampset "50th Anniversary of Hai Phong liberation (13/5/1955 - 13/5/2005)" consisting of 02 values:
- Value 2-1 (3323) - 800d: the stamp features the image of a famous historical spot Trang Kenh - Bach Dang, which has imposing geological structure reminding of Bach Dang victory. This place has been listed as national historical vestiges. The image of flaming Cat Bi airport recalls the grand battle which has contributed to the glorious victory in Dien Bien Phu. On the vignette is statue of female General Le Chan who was the resplendent symbol of the fighting spirit for national independence.
- Value 2-2 (3324) - 5,000d: the stamp generalizes the active development of Nam Trieu seaport by which it reflects the great achievements of Hai Phong, a seaport city in the process of construction and integration. On the vignette is the statue of seaport workers.
The two values have been all illustrated by the immense blue background, gulls flying, and image of Cat Ba island offshore with the great potentiality of sea tourism.
The main message of the stampset is that The Hai Phong City has been not only imbued with revolutionary tradition but also developing as a modern industrial centre.
